Strengthening cultural ties between Montenegro and the USA

ME&US Foundation was established to build cultural, educational, and social connections between Montenegro and the United States. Relying on the long-standing partnership between Santa Barbara (California) and Kotor as sister cities, the Foundation develops opportunities for exchanges that shape lives and perspectives on both sides of the Atlantic.

  • Music & Education: The Foundation supports music masterclasses and joint concerts featuring leading American artists and Balkan musicians. Highlights include violinist Gilles Apap’s masterclass and performances, as well as chamber concerts by members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Santa Barbara Symphony.
  • Artistic Collaborations: The Foundation fosters collaborations between American and Montenegrin professors and performers, featuring artists from institutions such as the New York Philharmonic, Manhattan School of Music, Mannes School of Music, and Denison University. These exchanges cultivate artistic excellence and support professional growth across the region.
  • Mobility & Exchange: Programs include culinary exchanges, internships at leading schools and restaurants in California, and sports exchanges such as youth water polo programs connecting clubs from Santa Barbara, Kotor, Budva, and Herceg Novi.

Impact & Vision

Through numerous exchanges, ME&US has opened opportunities for young chefs, athletes, and musicians from Montenegro to learn and perform in the United States, while American artists and professionals enrich the cultural life of Montenegro. By fostering people-to-people exchange, the Foundation strengthens the cultural bridge between the two countries, bringing new skills, fresh perspectives, and lasting friendships that continue to enrich communities on both sides.
