Dr. Dragana Jovanović graduated, obtained her master’s degree, and earned her PhD at the Conducting Department of the Faculty of Music Arts in Belgrade, studying under Prof. Darinka Matić Marović. She is employed as an Associate Professor of Choral Singing and Conducting at the Conducting Department of the Faculty of Music Arts in Belgrade, where from 2019 to 2025 she also served as Vice Dean for International Cooperation and Projects.
She has performed with the Collegium Musicum Academic Choir and the Mixed Choir of the Faculty of Music Arts in Belgrade throughout Serbia and internationally, in countries including Greece, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Croatia, Austria, Italy, Spain, Turkey, and China. Her conducting work with these choirs, as well as with the Obilić Choir of AKUD Branko Krsmanović, began during her student years, preparing numerous vocal-instrumental works with renowned conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Uroš Lajovic, Mikhail Jurowski, Kevin Griffiths, En Shao, Peter Robinson, Francesco La Vecchia, Mladen Jagust, Bojan Sudjić, and Saša Britvić. She also served as assistant conductor on tours to Greece, Cyprus, Romania, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, Austria, Italy, Spain, Belgium, France, the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Turkey, Russia, Belarus, China, South Korea, Mexico, Ecuador, Argentina, and the USA.
Dr. Jovanović has been a guest at prominent domestic festivals, including BEMUS, Tribina Kompozitora, International Competition of Music Youth, Belgrade Days, Festival of Documentary and Short Film, Mikser Festival, Harpafest, Choirs Among Frescoes in Belgrade, Mokranjčevi Days in Negotin, International Niš Choral Celebrations, Music Edict in Niš, Stringfest in Leskovac, Days of Serbian Spiritual Transformation in Manasija, International Chamber Choir Festival in Kragujevac, Somus in Sombor, String Festival in Sremska Mitrovica, Lenkin Prsten in Srbobran, Cinema City Festival and Singing Bridges in Novi Sad, Days of Sloga in Sarajevo, Vlade Milošević Days in Banja Luka, Tricycle Festival in Zvečan, KotorArt, Bar Summer Chronicle, Days of Music in Herceg Novi, Beauty Art Festival in Žabljak, and Tivat Music Festival in Montenegro, among others.
She has also served as a professor and conductor of the Mixed Choir and Symphony Orchestra of the Kosta Manojlović Secondary Music School in Zemun, conductor of the Symphony Orchestra at the Faculty of Music Arts in Belgrade, accompanist at the Opera Studio of the National Theatre in Belgrade, accompanist and conductor of the Mixed Choir of Radio Television of Serbia, and as a visiting professor at the Academy of Arts in Banja Luka (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Josip Juraj Strossmayer University in Osijek (Croatia). From 2017 to 2022, she was engaged in the project revitalizing the Orchestra of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, where, as chief conductor, she led numerous concerts domestically and a tour in Dubai.
In the last decade, Dr. Jovanović has focused on original and co-authored interdisciplinary artistic projects exploring contemporary choral and conducting practice in interaction with movement, staging, space, lighting, electronics, dramaturgy, and visuals (including Mokranjac 1914 – 2014, Document: WATER, Zmija Mladoženja, Inter nos…, African Sanctus, Shklovsky, The Stolen Prince and the Lost Princess, Traces from the Constellation Regula, Kaleidoscope). Her most recent project in this field, realized in October 2025, was created in collaboration with one of the world’s most renowned conceptual artists, Marina Abramović.
Dr. Jovanović is the author of the three-volume book Anthology of Serbian Music for Children’s and Women’s Choirs (composers from the second half of the 19th and first half of the 20th century), CD releases Colors and Sounds of the Balkans, Sirens, and Three Sounds of Mokranjac, as well as numerous articles, seminars, and workshops in conducting interpretation and choral singing.
She has received numerous awards, including the Predrag Milošević Award for Best Conducting Student (2001), Vojislav Ilić Award for Authentic Performance of Sacred Music (2004), Serbian Association of Musical Artists Award (2013), Golden Badge for Contribution to Serbian Culture by the Cultural and Educational Community of Serbia (2014), Vidovdan Knight Recognition (2018), the first recipient of the newly established KotorArt Recognition for Outstanding Contribution to Music Arts (Montenegro), Darinka Matić Marović Award (2021), and Golden Star awarded by the Music Institute of Youth in Zagreb (Croatia). She also received the Music Classical Review Award for Concert of the Year for the multimedia project Traces from the Constellation Regula (2023).
Since 2024, she has served as Artistic Director of the Tivat Music Festival in Montenegro, and from 2025 as Director of the Balkan–China Foundation in Belgrade, aimed at developing cultural ties and artistic exchange between the region and China.
